My burnt plants, 3 month update… they’re alive!

I’ve posted my burnt house and plants in the past and just decided to leave them. I have no where to even try to rebuild yet so just let it all go. I visited my burnt house yesterday and found this little shoot! A natal mahogany I’ve had for 10 years, it was 20ft tall that went up the center of my house… my first and longest cared for plant… I started bawling. I have 2 other trees and a plant also with new shoots :)

Before someone says it, yes, I'm aware that some of the plants pictured are toxic to cats but it's legitimately not an issue that comes up, kitty is safe.

Highlight First time making leaf specimens and it actually worked ^o^

Okay I might be obsessed, but I just pressed a bunch of my Alocasia leaves because I couldn’t bring myself to toss them. And it actually worked. They look so good, like way better than half my wall art. Now I kinda want to frame all of them. You gotta try this, it’s weirdly satisfying

Update: So a bunch of you asked how I made these, so here’s the deal.

It was my first try and I kept it super simple cuz those YouTube tutorials were way too much haha. I just pressed the leaves between a stack of heavy books with paper towels on both sides to help them dry faster. It worked, but omg it took forever. Like almost a month, and I had to swap the paper towels a few times. If you’re gonna try it, I totally recommend grabbing a plant press kit. I just ordered one for next round.

Once they were dry, I popped them into clear acrylic frames. Frame quality is a big deal, btw. Don’t cheap out. My first one looked terrible and killed the whole vibe, so I got a nicer one and it was so worth it. I didn’t do anything to preserve the color this time, so they’ll probably fade a bit, but I’ll figure that part out later.

You guys will definitely nail it even better than I did!

Help Does Billy Beef need a new crib? (How do I repot him?)

Post image

Beef (Nephenthes Gaya) is my pride and joy. My first and only carnivorous plant.

He gets special water and special fish food (I never thought I'd complain about not having enough flies in the house). It took a bit of adjusting to get him to a good space in this miserable British climate but I think he's happy now.

I'm thinking he needs repotting but idk. I'm so worried about hurting him or using the wrong stuff. I think he's in moss and some other nutrient lacking medium rn.

What's the best pot/medium to put him in? How do I manouver him into the new pot without hurting him/spilling his guts?

Any advice is appreciated šŸ–¤

Help Is my croton screaming for help or screaming with joy?

first time plant muva 🪓 unknowingly bought the most dramatic of all the queens for my first try at this thing, and oohh try i have. i’m here now asking for thoughts and opinions on whether you would say it appears to be a success so far, or is that my imposter syndrome & the delusion clouding my rose colored lenses? is my croton on some spiderman radioactive spider type beat or is it just really blessed with resiliency(and maybe a massive regenerative growth gene somewhere in all ze roots)?

And let me just say, I would go to war for this girl. Yes, she has pronouns, and yes, her name is Crouton. It’s my croton named Crouton, say hi. Purchased purely based on looks and appearance, shallow as I am. And not to sound dramatic but i would literally run into a burning building to save her so we’re a match made in heaven to be quite honestā™”

I got my croton on August 11, 2025. Repotted it on August 13, 2025 in a pot with not enough drainage. I was worried about root rot, so reluctantly repotted her AGAIN 5-6days later into a slightly smaller pot that also had better drainage. the day after this second repot this ole girl started blooming! the flowers/bloom process lasted close to 2weeks, with 13-15 flowers blooming in total. i thought the timing of the bloom meant it was happy, but also have read it could have been a stress response (lol) 🫠 i kept her outdoors at that time. started bringing her indoors at night some time around end of August/start of September. temps were dropping lower at night and home girl had seen enough clearly. shortly after the inside/outside thing began i noticed a mite infestation. womp womppppp! i tried lots of different remedies to avoid yet again another repot, but had no other choice. and that’s the story of how I had to repot my croton 3 times in less than a month☻

Now that my central heat is on I noticed stress responses like leaf drop (a lot of her former leafy beauty decided to fall off), drying ends on leaves, etc. I got a humidifier and started using it 1-2 hours a day nearby and that brings us here: not even a full 3 months later and my croton is blooming AGAIN? As a fully indoor (for the winter) plant. In the midwest. When the sun goes down by 5 pm. In November. Mind you.. it had 2 flower spikes when I bought it, but she has fully grown a 3rd one, and there are 4 more lil bb spikes that are growing in as well. multiple areas with new leaves coming in. A third stem began emerging from the base after the third repot fiasco. also I think there are a few spots where new branches are beginning to form?! Is any of this normal or did I buy an alien on accident?

**because we are vain in this household we’re starting with glamour shots first! her current bare naked lady status is at the end ;/
