It was women and mothers marching that set off (technically more like pushed it over the edge) the French Revolution and the Russian Revolution. MAGATs should keep that in mind when they ignore these women.

if dissent or rebellion reaches this point because they are brutalizing peoples mothers and children, and mothers and grandmothers are the main people front and center resisting it's only a matter of time before shit gets real hot.
but sure ignore the literal signs all around you and keep going fuckhead fascist assholes, you know what why dont you all double down again get more violent with women and children, keep going. ...oh please.

Women are at the front of pushing back—real leadership
•
u/31LIVEEVIL13 4h ago
Women have mainly been running this whole resistance movement and taking most of the blows.
I dont think that's a bad thing, it's probably for the best.
Men are starting to show up more and stand up, but women have already set the tone and long range strategy, which I have to admit is working out much better than anything i would have done and amazingly better than I predicted,

what they are doing is a better strategy and far more powerful - in this moment - than violence, which would be a huge mistake right now.

Maybe, but also this is a stupid take. what do you expect to happen if you do nothing? or continue to be non violent while they constantly escalate? you'll figure it out eventually, or not, more likely.

Notice that when those women sat down, the first thing those traitors did was tear down the unity of the protestors, by breaking the continuity of their circle of hands.
It always starts with one set of hands.
But when we stand together, we are far stronger.
DON'T let them break our unity. Stand up, stand firm, and most of all, stand TOGETHER.
75
u/private_developer 9h ago
Link through the elbows. Do not let go. The point of putting privileged bodies into situations like this is to force the oppressor to get aggressive. Make them work to separate you. Take some lumps. So the other privileged folks of the world feel a visceral reaction seeing "one of us," being brutalized.
→ More replies (6)64
u/Numerous_Photograph9 9h ago
More people should have stepped in and kept replacing the ones that were taken. Make them arrest everyone.
Eventually, the point is made.
22
u/acatalephobic 9h ago
I agree. And it is mainly fear that is holding people back from doing just that.
Lose the fear, people.
The time to act is NOW, and if we let fear hold us back, before we know it....there won't be anything left to fight for!
•
u/stopeats 5h ago
Two people did rush in to join. The protestors explicitly did NOT want people to join today to ensure that all members maintained nonviolent discipline (if randos join, you don't know what they are going to do).
You can see the people in high vis vests asking those two bonus people to leave, which they eventually did.
However, the moms are hoping to start a trend where more and more people join and engage in peaceful protest at the detention center.
•
u/Numerous_Photograph9 5h ago
wow. Good on them for being this organized then.
If there were enough people, the one's joining could also be part of the protest, but I can see how those unaware would also maybe escalate for not being in the loop. But I imagine that could be curtailed by asking people to not escalate as they join.
The imagry of people joining to take place would be pretty powerful, and making statements is what protests are about.
•
u/31LIVEEVIL13 4h ago
yes this looked intentional, another time another place they might use another tactic.
You dont start at the max setting.
you start at the lowest setting that accomplishes your goal, so you have room for escalation over a long time frame.
•
u/Freign 3h ago
vests aren't a good sign. those are the people that lead you into kettles, and urge you not to resist.
XR and related orgs are not on our side. They are on the cops' side. You can see this clearly in the video above.
→ More replies (1)•
u/haw35ome 4h ago
I was just thinking that. Their cars/cells can only hold so much people. Make it so that there’s a new fresh batch of protesters every arrest “spree,” and for enough rounds to make it crowded. You’re making stuff inconvenient/a headache on purpose - disruption as you will - otherwise, what’s the point?

u/RandomUsernameNo257 10h ago
Remember when the Republicans were the party of "the government needs to be small, weak, and uninvolved"?
28
u/fahzbehn 9h ago
"So that they don't stop us from being racist and sexist," said some Republican from thirty years ago, probably.
17
u/Acquiescinit 9h ago
To be clear, Republicans do not now, and have never before believed that from an ideological standpoint. That is an argument of convenience they use whenever democrats try to do something they don’t like.
They don’t care if it’s hypocrisy. They are just trying to manipulate people. They don’t hold themselves tightly to their word and neither do their supporters.
8
u/Craptacles 6h ago
I love how every argument I've ever had with a conservative has just been a pure fucking act from their side. Like of course it was lmao

Our own Madres de Plaza de Mayo. If anyone wants to deep dive, the Plaza de Mayo mothers from Argentina helped bring visibility to their dissappeared family from the 70s and 80s dictatorship in Argentina, ultimately bringing an end of the regime.

This is fascinating because these are suburban moms from the western suburbs. I presume that means DuPage County (GOP) territory. Trump and his minions have awakened the Sleeping Giant with their despicable immigration actions.

Even better to become limp when touched. Every muscle relaxed. Its very, very hard to move people that do this. Only move to get back to sitting down if they stop touching you to take a break. Just 5 people thats like 1000lbs deadweight. With them in flack vests, and more riot gear, this can get exponentially harder as time ticks on.

I don’t get that as a non American. Didn’t the Illinois governor say ICE isn’t welcome in Illinois? Are they just ignoring the orders from the governor? Or has the governor not actually given an official order to stand down?
→ More replies (5)2
u/Shadow_Breaker 6h ago
Given what I have seen it's either the governor makes the police enforce the law, or Trump's ICE goons get to brutalize even more people. So you get what you see here with warnings prior to dispersal, or you get morons who peaked in high school beating, gassing, and pepper spraying people you've sworn to protect. Not an easy spot for the governor.

The better tactic is as soon as those 14 are picked another 14 step out of the crowd and sit in a circle, repeat until 100's are arrested and strain the system and their pissed off husbands and family visit city hall in mass to demand their release.

Honestly, as sad as this is, the more people who look like them and sound like them are arrested, protesting or both - the more they will pay attention (MAGA and the rest of the base).
Suburban grannies wearing crosses and American flag hats. Honestly, dressing as American and as suburban and "Christian" as possible. I know they will always do mental gymnastics but imagine this all over Fox news. The turtle neck was a good choice.

If we want this to stop, we will stage a boycott and stop shopping online, stop with big box stores, shop local and use the powers of our dollars to prompt shareholders to demand change. Our dollars are our votes. I appreciate what these women are doing - and hope it will prompt the rest of the country to wake up and use our real flex which is our dollars. Oligarchs are made by dollars - OUR dollars.
6
u/Be4Dawn25 8h ago
I have been trying to get people on board for a national economic boycott! Financial protests are the most effective protest that we can use !
2
u/RedBirdOnASnowyDay 7h ago
Same. It is the only solution. Literally the only solution. If people think they can stop these clowns with public protests they are wrong. But dollars? Our dollars are completely within our own control. We don't need 95% of the crap we buy. I am not saying we should suffer. Feed your family. Get gas when you need it. But don't get extra. Cut it down to basics. We have power. Note: I do recognize the powerful impact of mothers protesting like this. It raises awareness and let's others who aren't present know the extent of the issue. So peaceful protests by mainstream allies are extremely important. They are willing to sacrifice to make a point. But their protest needs to be used to fuel the action that will truly change this situation - an economic boycott of epic scale. It won't take but a few days if everyone does it.

Way to go ladies! It's good to see people standing up against ICE
Question: will these women be charges? If so, what with and does it vary by state? Does it change if they go limp and make ICE actually drag them vs going willingly? It's a peaceful method of protesting but idk the actual laws

The stupidity of MAGA is now on full display. They actually pushed NJ away from GOP. Trending purple now royal blue. Now suburban moms are coming back to decency and real patriotism. For those republicans who think Tuesday was a protest vote - you are dreaming America is disgusted by your party.

u/HellionPeri 7h ago
This account of what is happening inside of Broadview detention center is intensely disturbing.
Arrest all thugs who are harassing, kidnapping, & torturing citizens & legal immigrants.
Contact your governor & mayor to respond to this crime wave.
Fun fact - being an undocumented immigrant is only a misdemeanor... not a capitol crime. AND, they still deserve Due Process under the Constitution.

This looks like the kind of stuff I saw in books during high school history...why is it happening again now? I feel like we've regressed. Or is this more like how skinny jeans come in and out of style? I'm tired.

I'm proud of these people. You hear so much about the left being unamerican that the term has been skewed from its intended meaning. These people are true US patriots and I applaud them. THIS is what our country was built on. It was LITERALLY founded against tyranny, monarchy, oligarchy, and suppression of human freedoms. Take note, US citizens. We have a fight in front of us.

These ICE agents are just as bad as the German soldiers who killed because they were told to. During the trials they were found to be guilty of crimes against humanity. I suggest the ICE agents are exactly the same.
•
u/greaterwhiterwookiee 4h ago
How does ICE have ANY authority to “arrest” these moms? Or was it deputies that a really came and removed them?
•
u/lavender_i 4h ago
Found out I was pregnant two weeks before no kings. Brought our son with us to the protest (after morning sickness let up)
What is fucking happening.
You’ve done pissed off too many pregnant ladies, I was not the only one there, lots of strollers! We’re raising our kids right as in teaching them what it means to be American - starting with the first amendment and also making sure we’re only looking at others plates to make sure there is food on it.

What needs to be done is the state representative who by law has access any time to this facility, show up with federal rangers or local authorities that will arrest anyone interfering with her inspection. Then charge these morons for denying people their constitutional rights hold them all personally responsible, hit them with state crimes so they are held at state level...get something done dems...dont prove trump right when he called you do nothing democrats
